05 July 2014 Today was a good day. The Skye Camanachd first team are through to the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-finals following their 4-1 win over Kilmallie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 5 July 2014. Two early goals from Jordan Murchison on 2 and 16 minutes got Skye off to a terrific start. Shockie MacLennan added a third after good lead-up play from Danny Morrison to put Skye 3-0 up at the break. Kilmallie started the second half strongly and they pulled a goal back after 55 minutes. Martin Munro was credited with the goal but the ball seemed to enter the net off Skye defender Neil MacVicar. Kilmallie’s lack of discipline cost them as both Peter Carmichael and Michael Rodger were sent off. Skye saw out the rest of the tie and a Jordan Murchison strike 6 minutes from time completed his hat-trick and clinched a place in Monday’s semi-final draw. The Skye Camanachd second team headed for Grantown Grammar School for a first meeting with Strathspey Camanachd on Saturday 5 July 2014 in the Strathdearn Cup semi-finals. Skye had to fight all the way to finally seal a 4-3 win. Mark MacDonald struck twice for the home side and Edgars Peca got the other. However a John Gillies hat-trick and an Alan Palmer strike gave Skye a place in the Strathdearn Cup Final where they will face the Newtonmore second team who had a 3-1 extra-time win over the Glenurquhart reserves. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were not in action. An understrength Skye Camanachd U17 side took part in the MacRae & Dick Strathdearn Sixes at the Bught Park, Inverness on Wednesday 2 July 2014. Skye didn’t make it past the league sections but they competed well throughout the tournament. Skye Camanachd A U14 and Skye Camanachd B U14 will not be back in action until after the school holidays. |
