05 March 2016 The new shinty season got underway on Saturday 5 March 2016. The Marine Harvest Premiership match between Skye Camanachd and Lovat at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 5 March 2016 was postponed. The Portree pitch was playable on Friday and passed an early morning Saturday pitch inspection. However there was a heavy fall of snow just after 10am and a further inspection by referee Calum Girvan and Skye Camanachd officials deemed the field playable. There were no alternative fields available to relocate the game. The Skye Camanachd second team lost 1-0 to the Lovat second team in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Balgate on Saturday 5 March 2016. Lovat forward Rory Campbell scored the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time. Lovat’s James Grieve was sent off by referee Andy MacLean. The Skye Camanachd Ladies opened their Marine Harvest National Division 1 campaign with a 5-0 win over the Aberdour Ladies in their noon meeting at the Portree High School astro pitch on Saturday 5 March 2016. Skye took the initiative from the start and Lorne MacRae put them ahead after just 5 minutes. MacRae doubled Skye’s lead on 25 minutes and they stayed 2-0 in front until the break. Abby MacLean made it 3-0 on 42 minutes before Lorna MacRae completed her hat-trick on 58 minutes. Abby MacLean got her second just a minute later to round of a good 5-0 win for the Skye Ladies. The Skye Camanachd Ladies Development Team will be in action in Ardnamurchan on Sunday 6 March 2016. They will play hosts Ardnamurchan, The games start at noon. The Skye Camanachd U17 competitive fixtures will start after the Easter break. The Skye Camanachd U14 competitive fixtures will start after the Easter break. |
