Skye Camanachd Ladies 2 Lochaber Ladies 1 | |
01 September 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies go two points clear at the top of WCA Marine Harvest North Division 2 following their 2-1 win over Lochaber Ladies at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 24 August 2013. Both sides had won all seven of their league games ahead of this fixture so the league championship seems set to be decided by the clubs’ home and away meetings. Anna MacDonald, Kristen MacBeth and Emma Gordon returned to the Skye squad after missing the win over Strathglass Ladies the previous evening. There was also a place in the squad for new signing Charlotte Gunn. However Jenna Beaton was missing. Lochaber fielded a strong side including current Scotland squad players Kirsty Delaney and Kathleen Cameron. Lochaber had an early chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty by referee James Pringle for hacking. However Kathleen Cameron’s spot-hit rose over the bar to the relief of the Skye support. However Lochaber did go in front on 11 minutes when Rebecca Stafford fired home from the edge of the D. Skye drew level on 15 minutes and it was Anna MacDonald who made it 1-1 following a series of corners. Both sides had chances to go in front but Sarah Corrigall in the Skye goal and Lochaber keeper Lyndsay Donaldson made some fine saves. Lorna MacRae went close when one shot came back off the crossbar but the sides went into the interval all square. The second half play continued to flow from end to end. Skye took the lead for the first time in the game on 46 minutes when a Caitlin MacLean shot came back off the post after she had made a great run but Lorna MacRae was on hand to thump the rebound into the net to make it 2-1. Lyndsay Donaldson produced a terrific save above her head with her caman to keep out a piledriver from the excellent Caitlin MacLean. Lochaber, prompted by Kelly O’Neill in midfield, put some late pressure on the Skye goal but Roz Lamond and Ilana Paterson were solid at the back to keep out the threat posed by Kirsty MacDonald and Rebecca Stafford, whilst Sarah Corrigall was her usual efficient self in goal. One of the features of the match was the great tussle between Lorna MacRae and her marker Christy MacIntyre. Skye and Lochaber still have two league matches remaining. Skye have a trip to Cannich to play Strathglass whilst Lochaber host Ardnamurchan at Spean Bridge. However the key game could well be when the sides go head to head at Spean Bridge and that game is scheduled for Sunday 8 September 2013.
