Skye Camanachd Ladies 2 Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies 3 - UPDATED! | |
19 September 2014 There was Valerie Fraser Cup Final heartache for Skye Camanachd Ladies as they narrowly lost out 3-2 to Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in the WCA’s premier tournament at Strachurmore on Sunday 6 September 2014. Skye were boosted by Catriona Gibb’s return to the side whilst the international quartet of Sarah Corrigall, Lorna MacRae, Jenna Beaton and Caitlin MacLean were important players for the Islanders. Kirsty Dibble dropped out of the squad which beat Glengarry last weekend with Anna MacDonald returning in her place. The Glasgow Mid Argyll side was packed with well-known names from the Ladies game including Joan Nicolson, who is originally from Uig on Skye, and she started in attack. KT Drain and the McCafferty sisters – Laura and Rachel – also played as did Lisa Norman and GMA were captained by Alana McGarrie. Lachie Wood was the match referee for this 3pm throw up. The early exchanges were even but GMA captain Alana McGarrie gave her side the lead midway through the first half. However Skye fought back and Caitlin MacLean levelled. A Joan Nicolson double put GMA 3-1 ahead but again Skye battled back. Lorna MacRae made it 3-2 and although the Islanders finished strongly, they were unable to get back on level terms. Skye player / manager Sarah Corrigall – who started the final in goal and finished up in midfield – was deservedly named player of the match.
