Skye Camanachd Ladies 1 Glengarry Ladies 0 | |
03 April 2014 The Skye Camanachd Ladies recorded their first ever Marine Harvest National Division 1 victory with a 1-0 win over Glengarry Ladies at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 29 March 2014. Captain Roz Lamond returned to the Skye line-up for this 12.30pm throw up after missing the defeat to Glasgow Mid Argyll because of work commitments. Anna MacDonald, Katie Lamond and Kirsty Dibble were also included after missing the GMA game. However Catriona Gibb was unavailable, Helen Lamond was working and Ilana Paterson and Nicole MacRae were both injured. This meant that regular forwards Anna MacDonald and Lorna MacRae had to be pulled back to defence and full centre respectively. After the recent good spell of weather, the Pairc nan Laoch pitch was ready for its first ladies game of the season. Both teams made a nervous start to the game but it was Skye who managed to create some promising chances during the early exchanges. Izzy Law and Emma Gordon were providing plenty of support and crosses for the Skye forwards from the midfield area. However the Glengarry defence, well marshalled by Laura MacKay, were resolute and although Skye created a number of opportunities, the Islanders were unable to find an early goal. Skye eventually went in front on 15 minutes. And the goal came from the prolific Jenna Beaton who created half a yard of space in front of goal before burying the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net to make it 1-0. As the first half came to a close, it was Skye who had the momentum but they were unable to increase their lead. Both teams made changes and Glengarry started to come more into the game. The visitors started to find gaps in the Skye centre line and so they created more opportunities in the home side’s goal area. However they were unable to find a way past the ever-reliable Sarah Corrigall in the Skye goal. Skye also created chances at the other end and twice the ball flew over the bar in front of an open goal. Referee Deek Cameron’s final whistle signalled a deserved Skye win. Skye's next game will be against Lochaber at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 12 April 2014. In other top division action last weekend, Badenoch & Strathspey beat Aberdour 1-0 whilst Glasgow Mid Argyll were 4-1 winners against Lochaber.
