Skye Camanachd Keeper Iain MacLeod Wins Caman DR | |
06 December 2015 Skye Camanachd first team keeper Iain MacLeod was the recipient of Caman DR at the club’s Annual Dinner Dance at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Saturday 21 November 2015. Skye Camanachd introduced Caman DR in memory of one of their most influential figures, DR MacDonald. It is presented each year to the Skye Camanachd youth player who has followed the philosophy encouraged by DR through his many years coaching youth of the Island. Skill, regard, enthusiasm and pride were some of the virtues DR looked for in his players. DR’s sons Somhairle, Aonghas and Gilleasbuig were tasked with choosing the winner of the silver mounted caman and Iain MacLeod’s performances this year made him their unanimous choice. Iain MacLeod broke into the Skye Camanachd first team at the end of last season, taking over from the injured Jamie Gannon. He was the 2014 Second Team Player of the Year and he has established himself as a permanent fixture in the senior side this year and his performances caught the eye of Scotland U21 Head Coach Garry Reid who named the 18 year old in the side to play Ireland U21 in the annual Shinty / Hurling international. Iain MacLeod was one of three ever-presents in the Skye Camanachd first team this season, playing all 19 competitive matches, along with Ally MacDonald and Jordan Murchison. Gilleasbuig MacDonald announced the award at the club’s Annual Dinner Dance and praised Iain MacLeod for his contribution to Skye’s success this season.
The inscription on Caman DR reads; Air a thoirt seachad gach bliadhna don iomanaiche òg a b’ fheàrr a lean ris an fheallsanachd a bhrosnaich DR MacDhòmhnaill thar iomadach bliadhna am measg òigridh an Eilein. Sgil, spèis, dealas agus moit. (To be presented each year to the young shinty player who has followed the philosophy encouraged by DR MacDonald through many years amongst the youth of the Island. Skill, regard, enthusiasm and pride.)
