Skye Camanachd Get Glenurquhart Test Following 2016 Macaulay Cup Draw | |
13 December 2015 Skye Camanachd will travel to Blairbeg to play Glenurquhart in the first round the 2016 Artemis MacAulay Cup following the draw on Saturday 12 December 2015. The draw was made LIVE on Oban FM by Argyll & Bute Councillor Roddy MacCuish and Davie Thomson and Davie Hamilton from the Macaulay Association. This will be Skye’s first participation in the tournament since 2010 when they lost 1-0 to Lovat at Balgate in the opening round with Fraser Gallacher getting the goal. This will be the fourth time Skye Camanachd and Glenurquhart have met in cup competitions over the last four seasons. They met at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree in the second round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup in 2012. Goals from Alan Palmer and Jordan Murchison cancelled out Neale Reid’s opener for the Glen to give Skye a 2-1 win. However Glenurquhart twice redressed the balance in 2014. First, after a goalless 90 minutes, it took extra-time to separate the teams in the RBS MacTavish Cup first round at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree with a James MacPherson goal making the difference. Later that year, the teams met in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-finals at An Aird. Danny Morrison put Skye ahead but Fraser Heath, David Smart and James MacPherson gave the Blairbeg side a 3-1 win and a place in shinty’s major final where they lost out to Kingussie. Skye and Glenurquhart met again last season in the RBS MacTavish Cup semi-finals. Two late goals from Fraser Heath and Neale Reid gave Glenurquhart a 2-0 victory and they went on to lift the trophy, beating Newtonmore in the final. The winners of the 2016 Artemis Macaulay Cup first round tie between Glenurquhart and Skye Camanachd will host either Kinlochshiel or Fort William in the second round. |
