Skye Camanachd 9 Lewis Camanachd 0 | |
18 February 2019 The Skye Camanachd second team were 9-0 winners against Lewis Camanachd as they contested the John “Kaid” Maclean Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 16 February 2019. Skye were current holders having won in 2016 with the last two meetings postponed because of the wet weather. Thomas Wilson took charge of Skye for this 2.30pm throw up. After missing much of last season through injury, Skye gave Jordan Murchison some valuable game time as he works his way back to fitness. Lewis missed the experience of Paul Duke, Daniel Gallagher and Paddy Sinclair. Skye played towards the Skeabost end of the ground in the first half. Jordan Murchison made an immediate impact on the game and he opened the scoring after just 8 minutes. Chris Rose lofted a high ball from the right into the goal area. Lewis keeper Ciaran Murray got a leg to the ball but he was unable to get it away to safety and Murchison was quickly in to roll the rebound into the net. Skye went back on the attack from the restart and Jordan Murchison got his second just 60 seconds later when he fired home on his backhand from left of centre. Play was stopped for 4 minutes as Lewis defender Innes Lamont was helped off after suffering a gash to the leg which later required three stitches. Lissie MacSween took over. A Daniel Morrison corner from the left went all the way over to the right wing where Jordan Murchison gathered possession. Murchison spotted Sam MacPhee’s run inside but the wing centre’s effort went wide of target. Murchison got on the end of another Morrison corner from the left but this time keeper Ciaran Murray saved with his feet and cleared the ball for another corner. The lively Cameron MacKay added a third on 26 minutes after a couple strikes at goal were blocked and Skye immediately replaced scorers Murchison and MacKay, as well as full back John Angus MacInnes, with Marcus Scott, Eachann MacRae and Andrew Banks with the latter going into defence. Marcus Scott made an immediate impact as he scored with a shot from the left on 31 minutes. And it was Marcus Scott again, just 4 minutes before the break, again netting from the left to give the hosts a 5-0 interval lead. Daniel Morrison got a deserved goal on 55 minutes when he controlled and then hammered home a wayward goal-hit. A nice Skye passing move shortly after was expertly finished by Sam MacPhee who ran onto a Daniel Morrison ball from the left before giving the keeper no chance. Skye were now knocking the ball around well and Daniel Morrison got his second to make it 8-0 on 69 minutes when he shot low into the net from the left after Skye had passed the ball around the edge of the D. Daniel Morrison completed a second half his hat-trick when he ran to the neat post to meet Cameron MacKay’s corner from the right and Morrison tucked the ball home at the second attempt. Jordan Murchison was by now back on and he made space before sending a fizzing shot wide of the junction between post and bar on the keeper’s left. Skye were now launching attack after attack and former Skye player Stuart Campbell was a stalwart in the Lewis defence. Skye kept stringing the passes together and another move ended when Jordan Murchison found Cameron MacKay but keeper Ciaran Murray saved at the expense of a corner. Lewis took the opportunity to introduce several of their younger players; a sign that their youth policy is paying dividends. After the final whistle, Skye captain Sam MacPhee was presented with the John “Kaid” Maclean Cup.
