Skye Camanachd 3 Beauly 2 | |
27 May 2019 The Skye Camanachd second team came from two goals down to beat the Beauly second team 3-2 Strathdearn Cup first round tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 25 May 2019. Skye co-manager Daniel Morrison took the side and was without Ross MacKinnon and Calum Robertson who were with the first team but Angie MacDonald, and David Grant were included. Gilleasbuig MacVicar was a late addition to the squad and he started at buckshee back. There was be delayed coverage of the second half of this match online and on radio on Cuillin FM’s Camanachd LIVE show. Skye opened towards the Skeabost end of the ground in this noon throw up. Skye made the early running with Archie MacDonald and Marcus Scott going close before Duncan Anderson broke free of his marker to run in on goal and give Beauly a 20 minute lead. Finlay MacLennan made it 2-0 just 6 minutes later and the visitors looked favourites to progress. Skye pulled a goal backs on 36 minutes when Angie MacDonald took a ball in the air to score with Beauly claiming in vain for offside. A great second half strike from Beauly’s Ewen Munro forced a fine save from Skye keeper Murphy Henderson. A sweet shot from Archie MacDonald on 66 minutes drew Skye level after Taylor Matheson had played in Angie MacDonald who saw his effort saved. The Skye defence, with Gilleasbuig MacVicar having a fine game at buckshee back, looked solid and the final outcome swung on two pieces of action. First, Skye keeper Murphy Henderson made a brilliant save, showing great reflexes to turn Finlay MacLennan’s piledriver over the bar to keep his side on level terms. Then, a couple of minutes into stoppage time, Archie MacDonald and Cameron MacKay combined and Angie MacDonald challenged Alex Dunnings and when keeper Gregor McCormick was unable to clear, Skye substitute Taylor Matheson forced the ball over the line from close range. There was still time for Skye’s Angie MacDonald to have an effort ruled out for offside and, after 5 minutes’ stoppage time it’s Skye who go through to the second round where they will play Glenurquhart.
