Skye Camanachd 2 Kilmallie 0 | |
09 August 2015 Skye Camanachd were 2-0 winners over Kilmallie in their Marne Harvest North Division 2 clash at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 8 August 2015. Skye Camanachd second team manager Davie Pringle made four changes to the squad which drew 2-2 with the Caberfeidh seconds in the league at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree a fortnight earlier. Iain Nicolson was with the Skye first team whilst Angie MacDonald and John MacKenzie were unavailable and Chris Rose was a late call-off. However Neil John Campbell was able to play after early indications that he wouldn’t make it. Youngsters Kyle Pirie, Calum Gibb, Ryan Morrison, Ross Nicolson made up the fifteen-man squad. Pringle missed the Cabers draw but he was back for this one. Kilmallie hadn’t played since they beat the Caberfeidh second team 5-2 at the Canal Parks on Saturday 27 June 2015. Andrew McAlister and Jordan MacPhee were free of suspension for Kilmallie after missing that game. McAllister started at full centre but MacPhee was missing. The Canal Parks side had no first team game so they fielded first team manager Mark MacPherson at buckshee back. Skye agreed to Kilmallie’s request to bring the throw up forward to noon as several of the visiting players had a wedding to attend later in the day. John Wood was referee in a change of match official. Skye played with a blustery wind advantage in the first half as they attacked the Struan Road end of the ground. The home side made a good start to the game and after passing up a couple of early opportunities, they took the lead after 11 minutes. John Gillies controlled an Iain MacLellan corner from the left and he took a touch inside before sending the ball high into the Kilmallie net to make it 1-0. Kilmallie had the chance to level on 24 minutes when goal judge Donnie Martin signalled for a penalty after Kyle Pirie kicked the ball inside the D following a goalmouth scramble. Ross MacKenzie took the spot-hit but Skye keeper Jamie Gannon stretched to his left to keep the ball out with his foot. Skye replaced Calum Gibb with Thomas Wilson with 11 first half minutes remaining. Meantime, Kilmallie made a positional change with wing forward Donald MacRae and wing centre Alexander MacIsaac switching positions. Former Kilmallie first team boss John Morrison shot into the side-netting from the Kilmallie right as the visitors looked to get back on level terms. Kilmallie goalie Frankie Innes made a brilliant save as he tipped away a John Angus MacInnes drive which was heading for the net, just under the crossbar. Skye claimed for a goal from the resultant corner when John Gillies touched down Iain MacLellan’s corner and volleyed the ball goalwards. The Islanders claimed the ball had come back off the inside of the frame of the goal but referee John Wood and goal judge Nicola MacIsaac waved away their claims and Skye had to settle for a one goal lead at the break. Skye’s John Angus MacInnes flashed a shot across goal on 57 minutes as Skye looked for the second goal that would give them a cushion. Kilmallie took James MacEachan on in place of Alexander MacIsaac as they looked to get an equalising goal. Ross MacKenzie almost punished the Skye defence for failing to clear their lines midway through the half but his shot from the left went into the side netting. Skye clinched the win on 74 minutes. John Angus MacInnes needed no second invitation to crash a ball from the Skye left over keeper Frankie Innes’ left shoulder into the top corner of the next to make it 2-0. Frankie Innes did well to bundle the ball off the goal line, under pressure from John Gillies, a couple of minutes later. Referee John Wood was quickly on hand to calm down a confrontation between Skye’s Thomas Wilson and Kilmallie’s Andrew MacAllister on 78 minutes. Kilmallie took Alexander MacIsaac back on in place of his brother Connor MacIsaac with just under 10 minutes remaining. Calum Gibb came back on for Skye with John Gillies coming off. It took a great blocking challenge from Skye captain David MacInnes to deny Andrew MacAllister a point-black shot at goal from the edge of the D on 84 minutes. Ryan Morrison replaced James Pringle in attack for Skye. Jamie Gannon used his chest to keep out a shot from substitute Jamie MacEachan on 87 minutes and the ball was cleared for a corner. The win keeps Skye top of Marine Harvest North Division 2 ahead of next weekend’s trip to Spean Bridge to play the Lochaber seconds.
