02 July 2013 Newtonmore edged out Skye Camanachd on penalties in their Strathdearn Cup quarter final tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 29 June 2013. A John Angus MacInnes strike gave Skye an 8 minute lead and the Islanders had the better of the remainder of the first half but couldn’t add to their lead. Newtonmore made a strong start to the second half and they got themselves on level terms within 45 seconds of the restart thanks to a goal from substitute Sam Richardson. ‘More had the better of the second half and the closest they came to going in front was an Owen Fraser penalty which was expertly saved by Jamie Gannon. With no further scoring, the tie went into an extra time period. Neither side could get their noses in front so it all came down to penalties. Newtonmore won the shoot-out 2-1 with Owen Fraser and Drew MacDonald scoring and Will Cowie replying for Skye. (more to follow) |
