27 March 2017 A late Kevin Thain goal gave the Kingussie colts a 2-1 win over the Skye Camanachd colts in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 25 March 2017. Skye Camanachd second team went manager Kenny MacLeod was without keeper Ryan Morrison, who was with the first team, so he gave youngster Murphy Henderson a debut in goal. Stewart Grant was also on senior team duty so youngster Angus MacDonald was called up. Kingussie had a late call-off to contend with as Chris Holley-song travelled with the senior side so Ronald Ross made his first appearance since last August, taking the buckshee back position. Both sides had only played one match so far this season. Skye drew with Fort William whilst Kingussie lost out to Aberdeen University. Throw up was at 2.30pm and, in a change of match official, the game was refereed by John Angus Gillies. The match was broadcast LIVE online and on radio on Cuillin FM’s Camanachd LIVE show. Skye played towards the Viewfield end of the ground in the first half. Kevin Thain gave Kingussie the lead on 22 minutes. Kingussie captain Sorley Fraser found Thain just left of the D with a quick free hit and Thain took one touch before crashing the ball past a helpless Murphy Henderson to put his side 1-0 ahead. Skye forced to make a change when full centre David MacInnes suffered a leg knock. Stewart Taylor came on in attack and Iain Murray dropped into midfield. Murphy Henderson made a good double stop late in the half to deny Liam Borthwick and Bradley Harvey to the Kings took a 1-0 lead into the break. Skye replaced David Grant with the returning David MacInnes at half time. Iain Murray went to full back as MacInnes returned to full centre. Skye drew level on 64 minutes with the lively Martin Pringle bursting through the heart of the Kings defence to score. Skye came within a whisker of going in front when John Angus MacInnes saw a shot clip the top of the bar and go over. The Islanders introduced Ian MacPherson and Kenny MacLeod for the closing stages as they went in search of a winner. It stayed level until 3 minutes from time when Dylan Borthwick played in a shy from the Kings left. Kevin Thain controlled the ball before turning and firing a firm strike home to make it 2-1 and give Kingussie their first win of the season. Jamie Gillies was excellent in defence for Skye whilst Ronald Ross’ positional sense cut out a number of home attacks.
