Skye Camanachd 1 Glengarry 0 - UPDATED! | |
13 August 2013 Skye Camanachd beat Glengarry 1-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 10 August 2013. Donnie Martin took charge of the Skye reserve side once again for this 2pm throw up and he was without the services of keeper Ross Graham so U17 player Iain MacLeod took over in goal. Skye second team captain David Grant was also missing as he had been called up by the first team and Paul MacKinnon was another absentee. Neil MacVicar started at full centre as work commitments meant he was unable to travel with the first team. Ally “Spod” MacLeod also made his first appearance after a hand injury. Glengarry have found goals hard to come by this season so manager Ewen Cameron deployed regular full back Mathew Clark at full forward. ‘Garry lost 4-1 to Kingussie in their last outing a fortnight ago but they played that game with just eleven players and they were nearer full strength for this one. Throw up was delayed 20 minutes as the Glengarry players were caught up with the heavy holiday traffic. Glengarry made the better start without troubling Iain MacLeod in the Skye goal. Skye had the ball in the net on 20 minutes when Angie MacDonald played a superbly timed pass into the path of Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod. ‘Garry keeper Gordon MacDonald came off his line to block MacLeod’s shot at goal and the rebound fell for Stephen Murchison who tucked the ball low into the net. However the goal judge correctly flagged to indicate that Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod was in an offside position so the goal didn’t stand. Stephen Murchison looked lively in the Skye forward line and the ball whistled just past the post just 3 minutes later following his turn and shot from a Thomas Wilson corner on the right. A nice run by Angie MacDonald on 28 minutes saw him juggle the ball into the Glengarry goal area and he released the ball to Stephen Murchison but his hook shot went past the post. Referee David Stafford yellow carded Angie MacDonald and Michael Brady after they clashed on the half hour mark. Skye were really getting a grip on the game now and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod shot wide on 37 minutes. Skye’s Neil MacVicar had to leave the field for the closing stages of the first half to get treatment to a head cut but he took his place back in the middle of the park for the start of the second period. . Glengarry pulled Steven Cameron back to full centre for the second half with Daniel MacLennan going to buckshee forward. Glengarry’s Mathew Clark spurned a great chance to put his side in front from the edge of the D on 54 minutes. Skye’s Angie MacDonald fired wide at the other end moments later. Skye took the lead on 62 minutes when a Magnus Burd corner from the left was knocked down by Angie MacDonald and Stephen Murchison swept a first time shot high into the net to make it 1-0. It was a fine finish and Murchison deserved the goal for his industry during the game. A midfield clash between Skye’s David MacInnes and Scott MacDonald of Glengarry saw referee David Stafford send both players from the park in what was another correct decision by the official. Glengarry’s Daniel MacLennan was the next player to find himself in the referee’s book as his frustration boiled over. Glengarry had a great chance to level on 72 minutes when Andrew Banks was penalised for a kick inside the area. Daniel MacLennan stepped up to take the penalty but he put the ball wide of Iain MacLeod’s left post. Ally MacCrimmon and Andrew Grant made substitute appearances for Skye in place of Angie MacDonald and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod. Daniel MacLennan saw a snap-shop on 83minutes well saved with his feet by Iain MacLeod but other than that, the Skye goal wasn’t threatened. Skye defender Andrew Banks was booked 3 minutes from time when he illegally halted a Daniel MacLennan run at the heart of the Skye defence. This was another good win for Skye which consolidates their third place in the table. Neil John Campbell was excellent in defence after his late Friday night dash from Oban to play in the game. Glengarry, for whom Daniel MacLennan was a real threat, especially in the second half, are now level on points with both Kinlochshiel and Aberdeen University at the foot of the table but they have a better goal difference than their rivals.
