Shinty Exhibition Set To Open | |
12 October 2015 A Shinty Exhibition, organised by the Camanachd Association in partnership with the Scottish Football Museum, opens at Hampden Park, Glasgow on Friday 16 October 2015. A significant part of the Scottish Football Museum has been made available to shinty for the six-month period. And the latest news is that the innovative partnership that will celebrate the historic links between football and shinty has led to a special deal, which should enable large numbers of school children and others to enjoy the experience of a five-star facility at a reasonable cost. The exhibition will be opened to the public on the afternoon of Friday 16 October 2015 and will be open on weekdays and at weekends, subject to special events such as international or representative matches and public holidays. Visitors are recommended to check details before travelling and groups of 10 or more will require make a booking to visit. The museum is normally open from Monday to Saturday (inclusive) from 10am – 5pm and from 11am – 5pm on Sundays. Normally, a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) for the museum costs £19. Shinty family groups, however, will, on production of evidence of their connection with the shinty club / school in question, pay £5 for adults and £2.25 for children (under 16) and concessions (over 60), and this will also extend to parties of ten or more people. This will allow access to both the football and shinty sections of the museum, but should the wider stadium tour be added to your visit the reduced prices will be £9 for adults and £4 for children/concessions. The evidence of connection with the shinty club/school in question will require to be agreed with Museum staff at Hampden when making the booking or before arrival in the case of a family group. Hugh Dan MacLennan, who has been leading the small team organising the project said, “We hope that the pricing structure we have arranged with the museum operators will make it possible for clubs and schools to take advantage of what will be a great opportunity to visit one of the world’s great stadiums which has thrown its doors open to shinty.” Many of shinty’s great trophies will be on display at the opening and on a planned rotation for six months. Clubs and Associations within the game have been offered the opportunity to be part of the six-month long event. Interesting and unusual objects are also still being sought for display and several important items have been discovered which will be added to the display, not having been seen for a considerable number of years in many cases.
