Shinty Ambassadors To Drive Sport In Schools | |
13 September 2018 Twelve High Schools from across Scotland are set to participate in a pilot scheme which aims to boost shinty participation. The schools taking part are: Ardnamurchan High, Glenurquhart High, Inverness Royal Academy, Kingussie High, Lochaber High, Lochgilphead High, Oban High, Portree High, Plockton High, Rothesay Academy, Uddingston Grammar and one other school still to be confirmed. Each school will have two “Shinty Ambassadors” who will come together three times in the year to participate training / reflection / evaluation workshops. Applications to become a Shinty Ambassador are now open. It is hoped that with training delivered by professionals, and the overwhelming support received from schools, teachers and active schools coordinators around this programme, that hundreds of young people will have the opportunity to become involved within the participation and competition events shinty can provide. The Camanachd Association’s Young Persons Working Group, formed at the start of the year, helped design the Shinty Ambassadors programme and group member Emma Gordon said: "We have really enjoyed being part of the concept and design process and it’s great to see our project being brought to life with the funding we have received from the Year of Young People National Lottery Fund. All of us on the initial working group are still going to be involved in the programme and will be the main contacts for the young people in the schools who we select to become shinty ambassadors.” Camanachd Association President Keith Loades added: “It has been excellent to have young people involved in the programme, designing the process, and it’s clear that the Shinty Ambassador Programme is something that will benefit schools and their pupils. We are grateful to the Year of Young People National Lottery Fund for the grant we have received to deliver this programme as a pilot in 2018/19 and from there; we’ll hopefully look to develop it further.” |
