Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final ………….. 1 Day To Go! | |
13 September 2013 The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore takes place at An Aird on Saturday 14 September 2013. Kyles Athletic are Camanachd Cup holders and they play in their third final in five years. Manager Norman MacDonald will know that his side will not hit Newtonmore with the same level of surprise as they did a month ago in the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final. Ace marksmen Roddy MacDonald and Thomas Whyte have been wrapped in cotton wool since that day but they will be back for this epic clash. Andrew King returns from suspension after serving a two match ban for a points accumulation so Kyles are expected to be at full strength. They opted for a free Saturday ahead of the final when they held a full blown practice match at Tighnabruaich where they worked on their tactics for this weekend. Newtonmore manager Paul John MacKintosh knows that one Camanachd Cup success over the last 26 years is nowhere near enough to satisfy the club’s support as they look to lift the games most cherished prized for the 30th time. In contrast to Kyles’ preparation, Newtonmore played last weekend and clinched their fourth successive Orion Group Premiership title with a 3-1 win over Kinlochshiel. Newtonmore captain Jamie Robinson picked up a slight heel injury in that game but he’ll be fit to play. Drew MacDonald made a substitute appearance against Kinlochshiel and showed no ill-effects from the knee injury sustained against Fort William a week earlier so he will likely start on the bench. Chris Sellar looks like missing out and the final has come too soon for Scotland U21 captain Rory Kennedy who has just had the plastercast removed from his injured hand this week. Newtonmore’s Danny MacRae is this year’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup top goalscorer so far with seven goals. Newtonmore’s Glen MacKintosh and Kyles Athletic’s Roddy MacDonald have scored five goals each. Newtonmore have won the famous trophy 29 times whilst Kyles Athletic have 21 titles to their name.
Event Details The 2013 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final is a much anticipated clash and expectations have been raised higher following the sides’ meeting in the recent Artemis Macaulay Cup Final which Kyles Athletic won 4-3. Throw up is at 2.15pm and the whole match will be broadcast live on BBC 2 Scotland. Innes Wood is the match referee and he will be assisted by goal judges George MacKay and Willie Cameron. Ted MacDonald will be the fourth official whilst Archie Ritchie, Alex MacVicar Calum Girvan and John MacGregor will be the linesmen. As well as the main match there are also two national U14 shinty finals taking place earlier in the day.
