Scotland U21 Head Coach Garry Reid has selected 23 players who will now go forward to form a provisional training squad before final selection is made for the forthcoming Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International between Scotland U21 and Ireland U21 at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015.
Reid narrowed down his pool of players following Coal Cup meeting between North U21 and South U21 at the Jubilee Park on Saturday 5 September 2015.
With a variance in the number of fixtures that some players still have to play in the run in to the end of the season; Reid has named a larger initial squad initially before he and his coaching team of Allan MacRae and Alan MacKechnie go about whittling the pool down to a final squad of 19 players following two more training sessions.
Garry Reid, who led the young Scots to a first victory over Ireland U21 in his inaugural year in charge last year, is happy with the process so far. He said, “The North v South encounter proved to be a really close fought contest, with a really high standard of play and a fast tempo to the game. There are a lot of good quality young players out there to choose from and they have certainly made it extremely difficult for the coaching team to make their final selection. Given that this season will run right up to the International fixture this year we have named a larger squad at this time to take that into account, and we will reduce the squad further following the second training session.”
The provisional squad is as follows:
