Sarah Corrigall Delighted With Skye Ladies Progress | |
21 June 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall said she was delighted with her team’s progress following their Valerie Fraser Cup quarter final win over the Glengarry Ladies first team at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 15 June 2013. Speaking on Cuillin FM’s “Camanachd Live” show after the 3-2 victory, Corrigall said, “We knew that we were going into the game as underdogs and we knew that we had to go out and play the best we can and every single player on that park today did their best.” When asked to put the victory in context, she added, “Glengarry Ladies have reached the Valerie Fraser Cup Final more times than any other team. They are an experienced, fit side whilst our team in comparison is very young. We’ve been in the league for two years now but the girls are picking up the game unbelievably quickly and they couldn’t have done any more for me today.” Reflecting on the match, Corrigall said, “We went 2-0 up very early in the game but anyone who knows shinty knows that it is never over when you are 2-0 up. We knew Glengarry would come back at us and they did and I know from experience that Glengarry don’t give up until the very end. However we took our chances and we got the third goal and everyone hung in there to get the win.” Corrigall made some great saves in the Skye goal to keep her team in front. “I would have to thank my cousin Danny (Morrison) for that as he’s been firing great shots at me for practice,” she said. Whilst Corrigall’s return to shinty on Skye is a super boost for the Islanders, she remembers how much Glengarry have helped her in her early career in the ladies’ game. “I am still close friends with a lot of the Glengarry Girls. They gave me my start in Womens shinty and I’ll always be grateful to them for that.” |
