Ronald Ross Makes Shinty Visit To Uist | |
12 November 2015 Camanachd Association Development Officer Ronald Ross was in Uist last month in a visit coordinated by Active Schools. Around 95 children (boys 50 & girlse 45) from P6 & P7 travelled to Sgoil Lionacleit to attend a Shinty Festival led by the Scotland Head Coach and supported by Active Schools. The festival rounded off a block of shinty sessions that pupils received through PE at school. A mass warm up was followed by some ball skills as well as learning the basics of shinty. The last hour allowed the girls to play a series of games in the games hall and the boys to play their matches on the 3G Pitch. The children played in mixed teams so were able to meet pupils from other schools and get to know them a little better. Ronald Ross said he was impressed with the level of ability on show and all who attended were encouraged to attend Uist Camanachd’s training sessions which take place at Linicate every Saturday between 12pm and 2pm. In addition, Active Schools visited schools after the October holidays to develop school teams who will train at lunch times and prepare for a tournament to be scheduled for early December. At present, five schools are running lunch-time clubs. |
