Ronald Ross has been appointed Scotland Senior National Head Coach for the 2014 and 2015 shinty seasons.
Ross steps up to the role of senior Head Coach following two years with the Scotland U21. He succeeds Drew McNeil who stood down in 2013 after four years at the helm.
As well as having worked for over ten years as Camanachd Association Shinty Development Officer, Ross has played at the highest level with his club, Kingussie, since he was aged 16, scoring over 1000 goals. He has captained the Scotland U21 and Scotland Senior Squads on more than one occasion and was awarded an MBE in 2011 for services to shinty. Former Camanachd Cup Winner, Jimmy Gow, from Kingussie has been appointed as Scotland Assistant Head Coach. It is expected that a second Assistant Head Coach will be named in due course.
This year’s Marine Harvest Senior Shinty / Hurling International first test between Scotland and Ireland takes place at the Bught Park on Saturday 18 October 2014. The Scots travel to Ireland the following weekend for the second test along with the U21 and Women’s representative squads who will have a one-off meeting.
