Portree Win 2016 Isle of Skye Primary Schools Camanachd Association Rotary Sixes | |
25 May 2016 Portree Primary School won the 2016 Isle of Skye Primary Schools Camanachd Association Rotary Sixes which took place in Kyleakin on Friday 20 May 2016. This tournament brought together twelve teams of Primary School aged shinty players from the Skye, Lochalsh and Lochcarron areas. League Sections After the two leagues were completed, Portree A were winners of league A and Kyle, last year’s winners, were runners up. Portree B and South End A were level in league B and, after a play-off game which included extra time, the teams could not be separated. It was decided to toss a coin to decide the winners and who were runners up. South End A won the toss and played Kyle in one semi-final while Portree A and Portree B contested the other semi-final. Semi Finals Portree A beat Portree B 3-0 in the first semi-final and South End beat Kyle in a Golden Goal period to win the other semi-final. Final The first half of the final between Portree A and South End A was a closely contested affair with South End coming closest to scoring. In the second half Portree took control of the game and ran out 3-0 winners.
Mike Westman of the Rotary Club presented the trophy to Portree A captain, Steven Bain at the end of the evening. Thanks are extended to all who supported the event and set up the pitch and to Sara Matheson and Mairi Evans for their organisation and administration on the night. Thanks also go to all the South end parents who provided tea and baking.
