Portree High School Finish Runners Up At Robertson Shinty Sixes | |
01 May 2013 Portree High School finished runners-up in the Robertson Shinty Sixes at Drumnadrochit on Wednesday 1 May 2013. A total of seven teams from across the Highlands took part in what was the sixteenth Robertson Cup Shinty Sixes. Portree opened against Glenurquhart A and they lost 1-0 in what was to prove to be a costly defeat. They followed that up with goalless draws against both Lochaber and Dingwall before a James Pringle goal gave the Islanders a 1-0 victory over Kingussie. Portree then beat Charleston 1-0 thanks to a Marcus Ross effort before they beat Glenurquhart B 4-0 in their final match with Marcus Ross, Ruaraidh MacLeod, Ryan Morrison and James Pringle all on target. Following an exciting and highly skillful afternoon’s shinty, Lochaber High ran out eventual winners in the round-robin competition with 13 points. Portree were runners-up, just two points behind. Kingussie were third on 10 points. There was double joy for Lochaber as Gregor Cameron was named player of the tournament. The Portree team was coached by John MacLeod and Neil Roberts and they made a slow to start in their opening games after the long journey but came onto a good game later in the day with three straight wins. Event organised Allan MacLeod said, "We witnessed some fantastic shinty today from all the schools taking part. Thanks to all the teams for taking the time to come and compete in this event which has gone from strength to strength over the years. Also a big thanks also to the Shinty Shop for the donation of the shinty balls for the tournament and to George Stewart of Glenurquhart Shinty Club for his help on the day." Glenurquhart High School looks forward to welcoming all the schools back in September 2013 for the U16 Great Glen Schools Shinty Sixes. |
