Oban Camanachd Mark The New Year | |
08 January 2017 Oban Camanachd marked the New Year with some shinty action at Mossfield on Saturday 7 January 2017. There was a change of format as the usual “Youngsters” v “Oldies” clash was replaced by a mixed match with players from the club’s U17 side, Lochside Rovers, Oban Camanachd and indeed some ex-players gathering for a 1pm throw up. The match was contested between a Red & Black team and a White strip team. The Red & Blacks led 1-0 at half time but a goal glut after the break saw the match end in a 4-4 draw. The veterans on show included Alec MacVicar, David Macmillan and Fraser Inglis who scored the only goal of the first half and he added another after the break to make it 2-0. Michael MacQueen pulled a goal back for the Whites before Willie Neilson made it 3-1. The Whites went on to level through an Andrew MacCuish goal and a superb 30 yard effort from Daniel Cameron which made it 3-3. The Whites then led for the first time through Conner Howe but there was last minute drama as the Red & Blacks were awarded a penalty. Whites’ keeper Beano Logan did well to save Brian MacCallum’s well-struck spot-hit but Fraser Inglis sent the rebound into the top corner of the net from an angle to complete his hat-trick and make it 4-4. The match went to penalty hits and some great goalkeeping from Des MacMillan and Beano Logan meant it was all-square after the first ten penalties so it went to sudden death with Daniel Cameron netting the crucial penalty to win it for the Whites. The match was a good work-out for Oban Camanachd and Lochside Rovers as they step up their preparations for the new shinty season and the squads retired to Coasters for soup and sandwiches after the game. |
