North U14 5 South U14 1 - UPDATED! | |
03 October 2013 The North U14 retained the Fraser MacPhee Trophy with a 5-1 win over the South U14 at Mossfield on Sunday 29 September 2013. This match was played in glorious sunshine on a pristine playing surface. The match started at a frantic pace and the South almost caught the North cold with a sweeping attack in the opening minute which ended when North goalkeeper Lee Dunbar from Lovat produced a sharp save to clear the danger. The North, driven on by the impressive Fergus Dobson from Kinlochshiel in midfield, gradually got a foothold in the game and they took the lead after 10 minutes thanks to a well strike from Newtonmore’s Duncan Gorman. The North continued to press but found South goalkeeper and captain Scott MacLauchlan from Inveraray to be in outstanding form and he went on to produce a series of terrific saves throughout the game. Further goals from the North’s Sandy Elrick of Beauly, Duncan Gorman with his second goal of the day and Lochaber’s Finlay MacDonald gave the North a 4-0 half time advantage. The second half was only 5 minutes old when referee John MacGregor awarded the South a penalty after consultation with his goal judge who had spotted a push inside the area. Milngavie & Bearsden Calum McLay stepped up and gave Lee Dunbar no chance from the spot with a well struck penalty to make it 4-1. The South, with the wind at their backs, continued to press and only a combination of sharp goalkeeping from Lee Dunbar and some last ditch defending prevented them from further reducing the North’s advantage. The North were always a threat but they found Scott MacLauchlan a tough nut to crack. They did however add to their tally when Finlay MacDonald scored his second goal of the game with a long distance strike to make the final score 5-1 in the North’s favour. Rosemary and Duncan MacPhee, who sponsor the event, presented medals to the winners and runners up and the Fraser MacPhee memorial trophy to the winning North captain Fergus Dobson.
