Newtonmore U17 Win Through To 2013 London Shield Final | |
20 October 2013 Newtonmore U17 reached the 2013 London Shield Final with a 5-2 win over Kinlochshiel U17 in their semi-final at Braeview Park on Saturday 19October 2013. Kinlochshiel went into the match without the influential Fergus Dobson who was on holiday. There was an early goals exchange in this 1.30pm throw up. Ian Robinson put Newtonmore ahead after just 3 minutes but Nathan Whear on 5 minutes and Ally Nixon just 3 minutes later put ‘Shiel 2-1 in front. However Newtonmore started to dominate the centre line and they supplied plenty of ball to their forwards who took advantage with Sam Richardson scoring after a rebound to make it 2-2 on 29 minutes and Ian Robinson getting his second on 32 minutes to see ‘More lead 3-2 at the interval. ‘Shiel Head Coach Ross MacMillan took Ally Nixon back to the centre line to try and change his team’s fortunes but it was Newtonmore who made an explosive start to the second half and Sam Richardson got his second goal of the afternoon on 42 minutes to make it 4-2. Ian Robinson completed his hat-trick and sealed the win a couple of minutes later to make it 5-2. ‘Shiel came back into the game but they were unable to reduce the deficit. Referee Archie Ritchie had to intervene on 67 minutes when an altercation between Newtonmore full forward Sam Richardson and Kinlochshiel full back Douglas Campbell saw both players red carded. Richardson will pay a heavy price as he now misses the final. Newtonmore U17 will face Fort William U17 in the London Shield Final after the An Aird side edged out Lochaber U17 1-0 after extra time in their semi final meeting four weeks ago The 2013 London Shield Final between Newtonmore U17 and Fort William U17 will take place at the Dell on Saturday 26 October 2013. |
