Newtonmore Primary School 9 Skye Primaries 0 | |
15 September 2021 The Skye Camanachd Primaries lost 9-0 to Newtonmore Primary School in the Camanachd Association Cup Final at Drumnadrochit on Tuesday 14 September 2021. This was just the second Tulloch Homes Cup competition with Skye beating Newtonmore to lift the inaugural trophy in 2019. However there was no doubting ‘More’s superiority as they gained revenge this time around. Newtonmore went on the attack from the moment referee John MacRitchie got the final under way. The Skye defence soaked up the pressure until Joe Coyle’s long range strike on 6 minutes sailed into the net. Played now flowed from end to end as Skye came more into the game however when Newtonmore’s James Coyle found a yard of space on the penalty spot, he sent a rocket-shot past Skye keeper Rory Turner to make it 2-0 with 12 minutes played. There were chances at both ends throughout the remainder of the first half. John Archie Tuncay defended well for Skye whilst the Islander’s goalie Rory Turner made some superb saves to ensure ‘More were unable to extend their two-goal advantage before the interval. The final continued at a furious pace from the restart and the second half was just a minute old when Joe Coyle, who has had such an impressive season, scoring his second goal of the game to make it 3-0. The ‘More forwards functioned as a seamless unit with Brodie Campbell working tirelessly to create chances for his teammates to score. Newtonmore began to turn the screw. Their passing moves were a joy to watch and it was easy to see why they have been so successful this year. James Coyle went on to complete his hat-trick with goals on 40 and 53 minutes to make it 5-0. It wasn’t all Newtonmore pressure though with Skye’s Lachlan Macleod and Newtonmore’s Logan Mccormack having a great battle each time Skye went on the attack. Skye began to switch their players around and Teri Macleod’s movement and passing gave the Newtonmore defence much to think about when she moved into the forward line Newtonmore were ruthless during the final stages of this contest and Joe Coyle completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes before James Coyle got his fourth a minute later to make it 7-0. Jaiden McCormack added his name to the scoresheet on 64 minutes with Joe Coyle rounding off the 9-0 victory a couple of minutes from time. Newtonmore captain Logan Mccormack stepped forward to be presented with the Camanachd Association Primary Cup in front of a cheering crowd. Highland Industrial Supplies (HIS) kindly provided food and drink for all the players after the final. The win meant Newtonmore completed an impressive treble as they added the Camanachd Association Cup to the Tulloch Homes Primary Cup and MacKay Cup won earlier in the season. |
