Neil MacVicar Hat-trick Earns Skye Win - Skye Camanachd 3 Caberfeidh 1 | |
25 March 2013 Skye Camanachd beat Caberfeidh 3-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 23 March 2013. Both Iain Nicolson and Shaun Hedley missed Skye’s defeat against Kilmallie last weekend and both missed this 3pm throw up too. Chris Rose had not recovered from an ankle injury so he also missed out. Caberfeidh manager Stewart MacLennan has a much changed line-up this term. His most high profile departure was international forward Kevin Bartlett who joined Lovat with Ewen Murray joining Glasgow Mid Argyll. Stewart Kryzanowski and Gary MacLennan are also not playing this season for the Castle Leod men. Skye played with a strong wind at their backs in the first half. Skye lost full centre Gilleasbuig MacDonald early in the game when he took an accidental blow to the face which required hospital treatment. The Islanders took the lead on 12 minutes. The goal was created down the Skye left following some great play from Jordan Murchison and he set up Neil MacVicar who hit a beautiful shot over keeper DJ Mellis’ left shoulder, into the net. Skye doubled their advantage on 43 minutes when Danny Morrison flicked a Skye free-hit into the path of Neil MacVicar and he slammed the ball into the net for his and the home side’s second goal of the afternoon. Referee John Matheson had to intervene as tempers threatened to boil over just before the break. Caberfeidh had the wind advantage in the second half and they came much more into the game. But it was Skye who went 3-0 ahead on 70 minutes when Neil MacVicar completed his hat-trick with a well-hit shot from the right. Caberfeidh pulled a goal back on 79 minutes following a well struck Ally MacLennan strike. The Islanders brought Neil MacVicar back into defence to help fight off a late Cabers charge. The visitors could easily have earned a draw in the closing stages had it not been from a stunning save from Skye keeper Michael Nicolson and a couple of wasted opportunities in front of goal by the visitors. However this would have been harsh on Skye who did enough to deserve the win. Skye remain third in the table, three points ahead of fourth place Caberfeidh.
