Neil John MacFarlane | |
14 June 2016 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was saddened to hear of the passing of Neil John MacFarlane. Neilie MacFarlane and his brother Ian MacFarlane were long-term main sponsors of Skye Camanachd whilst proprietors of Portree Building & Construction Services (PBCS). PBCS was one of Skye’s largest employers and their association with Skye Camanachd started in the 1980s and continued through the 1990s, including when the club won the Camanachd Cup in June 1990. Neilie and Iain provided the club with a mini-bus for travel to away matches and they were always on had to help out with the purchase of equipment or to sponsor club events. They were also proprietors Portree Hotel, providing after-match meals for visiting teams. Their sponsorship and goodwill to the community stretched well beyond Skye Camanachd, with a number of community groups benefiting from their generosity. Both Neil MacFarlane and Ian MacFarlane were made Skye Camanachd Vice-Presidents, a honorary position which reflects a person’s contribution to Skye Camanachd over the years. Neil MacFarlane’s funeral takes place at the Church of Scotland, Portree on Wednesday 15 June 2016 at 2pm and thereafter to the interment at Portree Cemetery. The sympathies from everyone at Skye Camanachd go out to Margaret and the extended family. |
