Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International – Ireland v Scotland ............. 7 Days To Go! | |
19 October 2013 There will be a scoring change for the 2013 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International series between Ireland and Scotland. The first test takes place at Croke Park on Saturday 26 October 2013 and the match precedes the Irish Daily Mail International Rules football second test between Ireland and Australia so a big crowd is guaranteed. Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil confirmed that there will be a scoring change for the Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International series between Ireland and Scotland. McNeil said, “We are back to three points for a goal for this series as opposed to the previous five points for a goal. This brings back into play the importance of the two points scores off the ground (sidelines etc.) and alleviates the need to score goals from frees which has previously caused an issue and indeed a dilemma. To put this in context, last year in the second match, we had to decide whether to try and get five points from a goal or take two points from a set-piece. The additional three points was tempting but by returning to the old system, the decision now is whether you try and score a goal for three points or just take the two points from the set-piece. Obviously you take the easier two points as scoring a goal is only worth an additional point and is more difficult to do.” The aggregate points scoring system over the two games remains the same as last year. Drew McNeil explained, “A win constitutes two points whilst a draw is one point and you get no points for a defeat. Also, if a team scores two or more goals during the game, they are awarded an additional point. In the event of the series ending level at four v four, then, as I understand it, the actual aggregate score will come into play.” Series Details Scotland and Ireland meet in the first Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling test at Croke Park on Saturday 26 October 2013. Throw-in is at 4.15pm and the match will be televised live by Irish channel TG4 (available over the internet) and broadcast later by BBC Alba. The second test between Scotland and Ireland takes place a week after on Saturday 2 November 2013 at the Bught Park, Inverness. Throw-in is at 2pm and the match will be televised live by BBC2 Scotland and TG4. The second test will be preceded by the Shinty / Camogie meeting between Scotland and Dublin and the U21 Shinty / Hurling meeting between the two countries. Picture courtesy of www.neilgpaterson.com |
