Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International – Ireland v Scotland …………. 6 Days To Go! | |
20 October 2013 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil has said that preparations have been going well ahead of the 2013 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International series between Ireland and Scotland. With the first test at Croke Park less than a week away, McNeil said, “Our preparations have been very good. Some of the guys played their way into the squad so that is pleasing and re-enforces to myself that I don’t go into the selection process with everything cut and dried in terms of the squad. Places in the starting team are up for grabs so the pressure is on to perform and performing under pressure splits the wheat from the chaff.” When asked about the strength of the squad, McNeil said, “Sport creates opinion. Every year players start with a clean slate and as some make themselves available and engage in the process’s other opt out. This stage has been the pinnacle for many players season and it should be a transparent competitive selection process. So my answer is, I pick the strongest team / squad year to year from the resources within the process. The selection process is something that I created from day one and all of the coaches have worked towards having the U21’s under the same umbrella to create a pathway into the senior squad.” Series Details Scotland and Ireland meet in the first Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling test at Croke Park on Saturday 26 October 2013. Throw-in is at 4.15pm and the match will be televised live by Irish channel TG4 (available over the internet) and broadcast later by BBC Alba.
