Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling / Camogie International – Scotland v Ireland …………. 2 Day To Go! | |
31 October 2013 Scotland U21 Head Coach Ronald Ross and his coaching team have been preparing well ahead of the Shinty / Hurling International against Ireland U21 at the Bught Park on Saturday 31 October 2013. Ross has been hit hard by injuries ahead of the game and 2012 Scotland U21 captain Rory Kennedy of Newtonmore and Kingussie’s Rory Borthwick and Thomas Borthwick, Beauly’s Scott MacLeod and Sandy MacVicar from Kyles Athletic are some of the players who would have been it his thoughts had it not been for some short-term and indeed some longer-term injuries. However Ross has his full attention on those who have made the squad and their preparations have been thorough. “We’ve trained well. For example, the boys from the South have been training in Oban twice a week in the lead up to the game,” he said. These sessions have been led by Assistant Coaches Fraser Inglis and Jason Latto whilst Ross and Fitness Coach Jemma Docker have put the North players through their paces. “The preparation sessions have also gone well to and we’ve really done as much we can ahead of the game. Some of the players having been playing University shinty in recent weeks and that is a help. It is also a bonus to have Lochaber’s Ben Delaney back from injury. He has been out for a while though so we have had him doing some special fitness sessions under the watchful eye of Jemma Docker.” Ross added, “We have a young squad this year and some of the players will be eligible for another two years after this weekend’s game. However the guys have played Shinty / Hurling at U17 level so they know what the game is about. They just need to step up to the next level and Saturday will be a real test.”
