MacDonald Strike Gives Skye The Points - Inverness 0 Skye Camanachd 1 - UPDATED! | |
25 April 2013 Skye Camanachd collected two valuable league points with a 1-0 Marine Harvest North Division 1 win over Inverness at the Bught Park on Saturday 20 April 2013. This was the second successive meeting between the sides with Skye winning 3-1 in their Balliemore Cup meeting in Portree the previous Saturday. It was in fact the third clash between the teams this term with Skye running out 6-1 winners in their league encounter on the opening day of the season. Inverness manager Allan MacLeod started in goal in place of Adam MacMaster for the Capital side. Skye manager Willie MacRae was without the services of Kenny MacLeod and the injured Chris Rose. Kenny Campbell was another absentee whilst Shaun Hedley was working. Skye played with a strong win at their backs during the first half and they passed up a series of chances to take the lead. The closest they came was a Danny Morrison 30 yarder which was heading for the top corner of the net before Allan MacLeod brilliantly tipped the ball away to safety. Just when the first half looked as if it would end goalless, Aonghas MacDonald was introduced into the action with just 7 minutes left until the break. And it was MacDonald who made the difference a minute before the half-time whistle when he took down a ball from the right wing which caught out the Inverness defence before coolly flicking it over keeper Allan MacLeod’s head into the net to give Skye a 1-0 lead. Inverness had chances in the second half as they looked to make the wind advantage count in their favour. They forced two fine saves from Skye keeper Michael Nicolson, one in particular from former Lochcarron player Mark Sproule, but they never really threatened the Skye goal otherwise. MacLeod in the Inverness made another fine save from Morrison as Skye looked to seal the game. The home side pushed full back Dougie Rankin into the full forward position for the final 10 minutes but they Skye defence dealt with his threat to record another clean sheet. Former Skye player Dougie Rankin had a great game for Inverness whilst young defender Ally “Spod” MacLeod turned in another top performance for the Islanders. The win leaves Skye in third place in the league: three points behind joint leaders Kilmallie and Beauly with all three clubs having played six matches of a fifteen game season.
