Lochcarron U17 0 Skye Camanachd U17 1 | |
05 May 2014 Skye Camanachd U17 made a winning start to their London Shield campaign when they beat Lochcarron U17 1-0 at Battery Park on Thursday 1 May 2014. This 7pm throw up was both teams first match of the season after their respective opening fixtures didn’t go ahead. The Lochcarron squad was made up of players from the home club, Kinlochshiel and Lochbroom with these sides not able to field a team in their own right. Skye U17 Youth Coach Davie Pringle was without Craig Nicolson and Johnathan Laing so Ross Nicolson and Ruairidh MacLeod were called into the squad. Skye got off to the best possible start when they took the lead after just 3 minutes. The Islanders won a corner which was taken by wing centre James Pringle and his ball into the goal area was deflected into his own net by Lochcarron keeper Matthew Young. Lochcarron were a physically bigger team than Skye but the visitors show great skills and Matthew Young made several good saves to deny the opposition forwards. Gavin Finnie took over in the Skye goal from Ryan Morrison at half time. Skye took a grip of the midfield area which allowed plenty of ball for their forwards. Skye’s Stephen Murchison was suffering from a heavy cold and the defender was substituted only to return in attack later in the game. He came within a whisker of doubling Skye’s lead when he crashed a shot off the crossbar. There were some great battles all over the park, especially between Nick Dalgety and Will Cowie in the middle of the field and Fergus Dobson and Stephen Murchison. The sides will meet again at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Thursday 8 May 2014 with a 7pm throw up.
