Lochcarron Opt For Just One Team For 2013 Shinty Season | |
24 January 2013 Lochcarron will field just one team during the 2013 shinty season and that side will play in Marine Harvest North Division 3. The west coast club agreed the move at a meeting on Monday 21 January 2013 and they hope that fielding one side in the lower division will allow their younger players the chance to flourish. However Lochcarron’s omission from Marine Harvest North Division 1 gives the Camanachd Association a headache with just over a month to go until the start of the new shinty season. Marine Harvest North Division 1 featured just seven teams last season and looked to have the same number this coming term. Therefore Skye Camanachd promoted the idea of the “third fixture”, which was adopted last season, remaining to give each club 18 league games. But now that there are only six teams in the league, the options are that the clubs play eachother twice, three times or four times meaning either 10, 15 or 20 league fixtures. However the 15 game option, which may be seen as a compromise, is not without its complications as the “third fixture” would see some clubs having three home fixtures and two away matches whilst others would have two home games and three matches away from home. The Camanachd Association is likely to consult with clubs before coming to a final decision with this whole affair coming just over a week ahead of an announcement about league restructure which will come into effect for the start of the 2014 shinty season. |
