Lochcarron 5 Skye Camanachd 4 | |
07 August 2014 Skye Camanachd lost 5-4 to Lochcarron in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 derby meeting at Battery Park on Saturday 2 August 2014. Skye Camanachd co-managers Angie MacDonald and John Angus MacInnes made four changes from the sixteen man squad which lost out to Kinlochshiel last weekend. Iain MacLellan Stephen Murchison and John MacKenzie were replaced by Daniel Morrison Calum Gibb and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod. Full back Andrew Banks was a late call-off. Lochcarron boss Ross Brown missed his side’s win over Lochaber last weekend as did captain Crisdean Finlayson and Andrew Slaughter. Brown returned but Finlayson and Slaughter were still missing as were David MacCuish and Jonathon Stewart. Lochcarron went in front after just 3 minutes thanks to a delightful finish from Gregor Cushnie who ran in and guided a chest-high cross from Nick Dalgety into the net to make it 1-0. The home side continued to press and Cushnie and Brown both missed the target with chances whilst Skye keeper Iain MacLeod did well to deny Brown a goal. Skye settled and they got an equalising goal on 12 minutes through John Gillies. The move started back in the Skye defence as Kyle Pirie played the ball forward to Chris MacLennan. John Gillies collected MacLennan’s pass and played a one-two before sending a terrific back-hand drive high into the net to make it 1-1. Skye enjoyed a period of pressure and forced six corners without troubling Lochcarron keeper Peter MacKenzie. Skye’s John Angus MacInnes had been getting into good positions and he scored twice in two minutes with neat finishes on 43 and 44 minutes to put the Islanders 3-1 ahead at the break. Lochcarron made a change at the break with Sean MacCuish and Calum Finlayson swapping positions and the pendulum swung in their favour from the start of the second half. Ross Brown made it 3-2 just 5 minutes after the restart with Cushnie this time the provider with a pass across goal. Gregor Cushnie continued to make the difference. First he collected a Nick Dalgety pass on 55 minutes and he turned his marker before shooting home from 20 yards to make it 3-3. Skye were struggling to clear their lines and Cushnie completed his hat-trick just 2 minutes later as he stretched full-length to knock the ball into the net off the post to make it 4-3. Iain MacLeod again saved well from Ross Brown but it was Cushnie who took his tally to four goals when he got on the end of a Brown cut-back to make it 5-3 after the Lochcarron player-manager had beaten his marker and cut-in along the bye-line. Skye’s Angie MacDonald made it 5-4 in injury time after home keeper Peter MacKenzie seemed to misjudge a John Gillies shot and MacDonald nipped in to score. Lochcarron are now two points behind second place Glengarry with a game in hand and the sides meet at Battery Park this coming weekend. Skye remain two points adrift at the bottom of the table but they do have the Strathdearn Cup Final to look forward to this coming weekend.
