Lochaber U14 Pip Skye & Wester Ross U14 To Win 2015 Ferguson Transport & Shipping Inter District Tournament | |
04 September 2015 Lochaber U14 won the 2015 Ferguson Transport & Shipping U14 Inter-District tournament at Spean Bridge on Sunday 30 August 2015. The draw paired Inverness District and Skye & Wester Ross in the first 50 minutes semi-final. Inverness began the match strongly and took the lead before Skye & Wester Ross got in to their stride. The second half was a more open affair and there were chances at both ends. And it was Skye & Wester Ross who took advantage of one of these to equalise through Ross Gordon. It looked as if the game would finish level until Skye & Wester Ross scored the winner at the death with Martin MacRae netting direct from a corner-hit. Badenoch (which incorporated Strathglass for the day) met Lochaber in the second semi-final. This was an end to end match and Badenoch led before Lochaber pegged them back. There was no further scoring and a penalty shoot-out was required to separate the teams which Lochaber won 2 -0. The third / fourth place play-off between Inverness and Badenoch was tied at 1–1 and it looked as if it would take penalties to separate the sides. However Inverness snatched victory with a goal in the final hit of the game. Skye & Wester Ross took the initiate from the throw up in the final against Lochaber. Duncan MacRae gave Skye & Wester Ross a first half lead. Lochaber looked better in the second half although the West Coast team were still dangerous on the break, Lochaber’s pressure eventually told as they conjured up an equaliser. Both teams pushed for a winner but there was no further scoring and another penalty shoot-out was required. The statutory five penalties apiece could not separate the teams and it wasn’t until the third round of ‘sudden death’ that Lochaber claimed the victory and they retained the Ferguson Transport & Shipping Shield for the fourth consecutive year. These matches provided an opportunity for players to stake a claim for the North U14 squad which was afterwards selected by James Gallagher, James Cruickshank, Dallas Young, Iain Borthwick, Ross MacMillan, Victor Smith and Ally Clark. All selected players will be informed by letter this week and the squad will be formally announced upon return of all confirmation slips from players. |
