Lochaber Ladies 2 Skye Camanachd Ladies 5 | |
04 July 2014 After last weekend’s impressive win in the Valerie Fraser Cup semi-finals, it was back to league business for Skye Camanachd Ladies as they beat Lochaber Ladies 5-2 in their Marine Harvest National Division meeting at Spean Bridge on Sunday 29 June 2014. Skye Head Coach Sarah Corrigall rang the changes as Helen Lamond returned to the Skye squad for this 1pm throw up but Catriona Gibb remained on the injury list. Roz Lamond and Nicole MacRae were on holiday and Katie Lamond was also missing whilst Kristen MacBeth was working. Skye notched an early goal when Lorna MacRae fired a low, hard shot from 22 yards through a crowd of players into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0. Lochaber levelled when Kirsty MacDonald managed to wriggle free from her marker and she hit a rocket of a shot into the top right hand corner of the goal to make it 1-1. Skye had more of the ball in the first half but they struggled to get past Lochaber stand-in keeper Laura MacIntyre who was having a great game. Lochaber on the other hand had less possession but looked more deadly in attack. Skye regained the lead when Anna MacDonald hit a shot from mid-range which MacIntyre couldn’t stop. Lochaber were to have the final say of the first half when, following good play down the right wing, Kirsty MacDonald managed to squeeze the ball between Skye keeper Sarah Corrigall and her near post to tie the game at 2-2 on half time. With the sun beating down on the Spean Bridge pitch; it was going to be a long second half for the Lochaber Ladies as they had no substitutes. Skye took advantage of Lochaber’s lack of fresh legs and made some changes of their own. Instantly Skye looked sharper upfront, and they scored two goals within 10 minutes of the restart. First Jenna Beaton created some space for herself on the left wing and she connected nicely with the ball to make it 3-2. Then Caitlin MacLean, who was moved from full back to full forward after the restart, scored Skye’s fourth goal after combining well with Jenna Beaton. Lochaber fought back hard and they came close to getting back into the game but were unable to find the back of the net. Lorna MacRae wrapped things up for Skye just 10 minutes from the end with a wonder strike just short of the half-way line to give Skye a 5-2 victory.
