Lochaber High School Win 2015 Shinty Shop Great Glen Schools Sixes | |
23 September 2015 Lochaber High School won the 2015 Shinty Shop Great Glen School’s Shinty Sixes at Blairbeg on Tuesday 22 September 2015. A total of ten teams from across the Highlands and Islands took part in the event, which this year celebrated its 20th year. Glenurquhart High School entered three teams whilst Charleston Academy and Kingussie High School each entered two teams. There were also sides from Lochaber High School, Kilchuimen Academy and Nicolson Institute who took part for the first time. Following the league stage, the first semi-final saw Lochaber defeat Kilchuimen 3-0 and in the other semi, it took a penalty shoot-out to separate Glenurquhart High and Kingussie High, with the Glen winning 3-2. There was some conciliation for Kingussie as the beat Kilchuimen 3-0 in the third / fourth place play-off. The grand final brought together Lochaber and Glenurquhart and it was a close affair. The teams were tied 0-0 at the end of regulation time and it was Fort William second team player Dean Williamson who struck for Lochaber in the second minute of the golden goal extra-time period to seal the win. . Helen MacLennan from sponsors Shinty Shop presented the medals and trophies and the Player of the Tournament award was given to another Fort William player; Seamus Gall of Lochaber High School. Event organiser Allan MacLeod said, “It was a fantastic standard of shinty from all teams which took part and the players should be very proud. Today marked 20 years of the competition and it was great to see the Nicolson Institute from Stornoway making the journey to take part for the first time. We look forward to the next 20 years of this competition.” |
