Lochaber 6 Skye Camanachd 2 | |
23 April 2014 Skye Camanachd went down 6-2 to Lochaber in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 match at Spean Bridge on Saturday 19 April 2014. This fixture was originally scheduled for earlier in the season but was postponed because the Spean Bridge pitch was unplayable. Skye bosses John Angus MacInnes and Angie MacDonald were without Shaun Hedley whilst Scott Martin, Chris Campbell and Conor Ross dropped out of the squad. However Ally “Viewfield” MacLeod and John Murphy returned. Aonghas MacDonald took over in goal from Iain MacLeod. Stephen Murchison was a late call-off but Iain MacLellan made his first appearance of the season from the substitutes’’ bench. Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson was boosted by the inclusion of his son Zandz Ferguson and the Scotland U21 international started at full centre. First team forward Kevin Ferguson also made a first appearance following an injury to his arm. Lochaber raced into a two goal lead thanks to strikes from Kevin Ferguson and Danny Delaney. However a John Murphy double tied the match at 2-2. Murphy’s first goal was a backhand shot from a tight angle after he collected an Ally “Viewfield” MacLeod pass. The second was a shot from around the penalty spot, set up by Paul MacKinnon. Lochaber regained the lead with Kevin Ferguson’s second goal of the afternoon to go 3-2 up at the break. Skye had a good spell at the start of the second half but they were unable to draw level again. The home side scored three more goals in a 10 minute spell to end the match as a contest. Kevin Ferguson completed his hat-trick, Conor Sweeney and Danny Delaney’s second strike gave the Spean Bridge men a four goal cushion. But for some fine saves from Skye keeper Aonghas MacDonald, the winning margin could have been greater. This was Lochaber’s first win of the season after losing their opening two fixtures to Boleskine and Fort William whilst Skye have one home win and two away defeats from their opening three fixtures.
