Lochaber 1 Skye Camanachd 5 | |
24 June 2016 The Skye Camanachd second team are through to the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals after they beat the Lochaber second team 5-1 in their second round tie at Spean Bridge on Saturday 18 June 2016. Skye Camanachd second team boss Davie Pringle made three changes to the squad which beat the Kingussie seconds in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 encounter a fortnight earlier. Keeper Ryan Morrison was unavailable and Iain Murray and Allan MacLeod were with the first team. There were call ups for Andrew Banks, DJ Gilpin and U17 player Martin Pringle who was a late replacement for Angus MacDonald. Captain David Grant was persuaded to play between the sticks. Lochaber had been on a run of six straight wins before losing to the Kilmallie second team in their previous outing so they were in good form going into this noon throw up. Iain MacLellan settled Skye into the tie in the best way possible with a hat-trick in the first 26 minutes. MacLellan opened the scoring on 3 minutes when Chris Rose played ball through the middle and MacLellan came in from the left wing and took the ball on the stick at edge of D. The ball kicked up and MacLellan shyed it downwards past the keeper to make it 1-0. It got better for Skye on 9 minutes when John Angus MacInnes smashed a shot off the crossbar MacLellan followed up and put the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-0. Iain MacLellan completed his hat-trick on 26 minutes when he turned the full back inside the D and he netted with a half-swing which beat the keeper. Lochaber’s Ryan Gunn reduced the deficit on 31 minutes when the ball broke to him on the right and he scored to make it 3-1 at the break. Skye substitute Martin Pringle notched his first goal at second team level on 66 minutes. Ross Gordon crossed a square ball from out on the Skye right which went past Iain MacLellan and his marker and Pringle came in behind to score with a first-time shot from about 15 yards out. It was a really good finish. Lochaber never gave up and make-shift Skye keeper David Grant made a great save with his hand from a stinging Keith Neville strike from around the penalty spot mid-way through the second half. Neil John Campbell rounded off a good day for Skye when he scored to made it 5-1 on 76 minutes. Iain MacLellan gathered possession and dribbled the ball down the left playing it to the edge of the D and Neil John Campbell came in and, on his backhand, he sent a great first-time strike into the net. The Skye reserves will now play the Kinlochshiel reserves, who beat Caithness 8-0 in their last-sixteen tie, in the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals which are scheduled for Saturday 16 July 2016.
