Lisa Norman Is New Women’s Camanachd Association President | |
05 February 2013 The Women’s Camanachd Association has announced that Lisa Norman will be the new President of the Association. The position of WCA President remained vacant following the Association’s AGM and Lisa Norman takes over from Fiona Mathie who stepped down at the end of last season due to work commitments. However Fiona Mathie remains on the committee in an advisory role and will take the lead on the new Development sub-committee which will contain representatives from every women’s team. Lisa Norman has a strong shinty background and brings a wealth of experience to the role. She currently plays shinty for Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in Marine Harvest National Division 1 and for Aberdour in Marine Harvest South Division 2. She has played for eight times for the Scotland Women’s team and has two Valerie Fraser Cup winners’ medals. As well as founding Aberdour Shinty Club in 2001, she is currently Head Coach at the club where she coaches players from primary school level right the way through to senior men’s shinty. She held the position of WCA President in the early years of the Association and she has also held the post of International Coordinator for several years. Lisa Norman works for Fife Council as their Sports Development Officer and she said of her new role, “I’m delighted to once again be taking up the role of Women’s President. The Women’s Camanachd Association has moved on so much in the last few years and the dedication and fresh ideas of outgoing President Fiona Mathie has left a lasting impact on the game. It is vital this momentum is kept going. I hope to continue to drive the game in the right direction working with the Development sub-committee to address the current challenges. I am looking forward to another exciting year of women’s shinty.” The other major change at the WCA is that Skye Camanachd Ladies’ Marion Gillies takes over as Secretary from Iona Campbell of Dunadd. Marion Gillies was a driving force behind the Skye Camanachd Ladies’ progress last season. |
