23 July 2017 Lewis Camanachd retained the HebCelt Cup for the fifth successive year with a 4-2 win over Uist Camanachd at Bayhead, Stornoway on Saturday 22 July 2017. Lewis keeper Graham Cay was called into action on more than one occasion before Dougie Shaw put Lewis ahead after 20 minutes. Ally Lamont’s initial shot was saved but Shaw got away from his marker to score from the rebound. David Cleary made it 2-0 a minute before the break when he ran onto a long ball and he finished in style. When David Cleary got his second on 68 minutes, following a rebound after Dougie MacIntyre’s initial effort was saved, it made it 3-0 but the goal came against the run of play. A great long-range strike from Paul Duke went low into the goal to make it 4-0 with 10 minutes remaining. Uist halved the deficit with two late goals. Crisdean MacRae netted following a goalmouth scramble a couple of minutes later and Uist hit the frame of the goal before James MacRae made it 4-2 on the stroke of full time. Lewis Camanachd Peter Gomez was presented with the trophy following the final whistle. |
