Kinlochbervie Alumni Win 2014 Farr North Sixes | |
12 June 2014 Kinlochbervie Alumni won the 2014 Farr North Sixes in Scourie on Saturday 7 June 2014. A large crowd gathered for what was by far the strongest tournament to date with two Kinlochbervie teams, two teams from reigning champions Lochbroom, two Camanachd Leòdhais sides and a Uist Camanachd six. After a closely fought league campaign, Kinlochbervie Alumni, consisting of their home-based players, needed to beat their Under-graduate side of students returned for summer to ensure victory after securing a draw against Lochbroom B. This they duly did. Scott Paterson was the winning captain with Scottish Women’s squad reserve Sophie Clark, and a guesting Paddy Wilson, both heavily involved. Jack Hetharall also contributed with an important winner against Lewis. However, there was consolation for ‘Broom B, as their Lorn MacFadyen was named Player of the Tournament. Broom A’s Sandy Urquhart will have run him close as he made his presence felt with his box to box, robust play and some fine goals. Camanachd Leòdhais A competed well, finishing fourth just behind the two Ullapool teams. Former Skye Camanachd player Eòghan Stewart was involved at the back, as well as scoring a couple to help edge out the Undergraduates. The young Leòdhasach B team battled it out with their equally youthful Uist neighbours to avoid bottom spot. Ruairidh MacMillan and Joseph MacInnes were two players from the respective sides who stood out but all four clubs involved can be delighted with the progress they are making on and off the park. Kinlochbervie A squeezed out a visiting Glengarry side in the U14 competition. However the Great Glen side have some good talent coming through which boded well for the future. Sadly this year did not see a team from Farr Camanachd in attendance, nor were the new Caithness side able to make it. The Shinty Shop was in attendance and the event marked the opening of the Scourie pitch’s new clubhouse and changing rooms. This is a great event which will surely continue to go from strength to strength in the years ahead. |
