03 October 2013 Skye Camanachd kept their Marine Harvest North Division 1 title hopes alive with a 3-2 win over Kingussie at the Dell on Friday 27 September 2013. The Islanders were again without the injured John MacInnes but Conor Gilpin and Ryan O’Halloran returned to the squad for this 5pm throw up. Kingussie knew that a win would see them crowned league champions and they had a large support to cheer them on. Skye came quickly out of the blocks on the excellent Dell surface and they took the game to Kingussie from the throw up. A long-range effort from James Pringle after a couple of minutes forced Kingussie keeper Robert Shiels to make a save. A minute later, a Ruaraidh MacLeod snap-shot looked goal-bound until it was deflected for a corner Skye took the lead after 8 minutes when Stuart Taylor pushed the ball home after a scramble in Kingussie defence. Skye doubled their advantage just 2 minutes later when Ruaraidh MacLeod finished well from 18 yards with low drive after KIngussie had failed to clear their lines. Skye keeper Jack Henderson was called into action on 18 minutes when he saved well with his feet. A Conor Ross shot went over the top on 20 minutes. Jack Henderson again saved well on 24 minutes. A Conor Ross effort from 15 yards on 26 minutes forced Robert Shiels to save well with feet. Kingussie pulled a goal back on 29 minutes. The Skye defence failed to clear the ball and Roddy Young made the most of the opportunity to score. Skye took the 2-1 lead into the half time break and they started the second half on the attack. Skye restored their two goal advantage on 36 minutes with the goal of the game. Ruaraidh MacLeod controlled a long clearance on the Kingussie penalty spot and gave keeper Shiels no chance as he dispatched a superb backhand shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-1. Kingussie responded and Jack Henderson made a smart stop with his feet a minute later. The game was flowing from end-to-end and Robert Shiels did well to foil Ruaraidh MacLeod on 49 minutes. Skye danger-man Conor Ross was being kept relatively quiet by the superb Calum Grant at buckshee back for Kingussie. Emma Gordon replaced Stuart Taylor for Skye on 51 minutes. Kingussie reduced the deficit on the hour mark when Roddy Young turned Ryan Morrison to score and make it 3-2. Kingussie continued to press and Roddy Young was causing the Skye defence problems but Ryan Morrison proved a match in the Skye rear-guard. The pressure was now all on the Skye goal and Roddy Young hit post with 10 minutes remaining. Young also saw another effort go just the wrong side of the post moments later. Kingussie pushed hard for an equaliser in a frantic final 5 minutes and their best chance came a minute from time when they were awarded penalty after the ever-sharp Roddy Young was hauled down in the D by Skye’s Ryan Morrison. Alexander Michie stepped up to take the spot-hit. Michie couldn't have hit a better penalty but Jack Henderson in the Skye goal produced the save of the season, tipping the ball over the bar, to defy Michie and prevent Kingussie from getting a point.
