Kilmallie Stalwart John Stewart Hangs Up His Caman | |
15 January 2016 Kilmallie stalwart John Stewart has announced his retirement from shinty. The Kilmallie forward has been troubled by injury over the last couple of seasons. As well as playing for Kilmallie for the last 21 years, after breaking into the team as a 15 year old, Stewart was also a regular in the Scotland Shinty / Hurling international set-up for over half that time. However arthritic injury difficulties have meant Stewart has taken the decision to bring his playing days to an end and his last appearance was as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Kingussie in the Marine Harvest Premiership play-off match at the end of November 2015. Kilmallie first team manager Mark MacPherson has been some-what compensated by Stewart’s absence after confirming last month that forward Duncan Rodger has signed for the team from Fort William whilst another forward, Grant MacKenzie, returns to the Canal Parks after a spell with Ballachulish. |
