The Camanachd Association has confirmed the appointment of Katie Drain as Regional Shinty Development Officer for the North.
Katie Drain takes up the Inverness based post on Monday 23 November 2015 and she replaces previous Regional Development Officer Russell Jones.
On the field, she is known as a player for Marine Harvest National Division 1 and Valerie Fraser Cup double winners Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies and she was part of Stuart Reid’s Scotland Ladies squad which defeated a Kildare Select in their Shinty / Camogie meeting last weekend. She has also experience as a Coach and Administrator.
She has worked for the Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) charity in Glasgow since 2008, delivering “Education Through Sport” programmes across Scotland.
In 2013, she became Programme Manager of SSF’s highly successful “Jump2it” initiative, a primary school Health & Citizenship programme delivered across Scotland to ‘at risk’ youths, using pro athletes to deliver interactive workshops.
Katie Drain has also previously worked as a Sports Coach for East Dunbartonshire Council and is qualified to coach a range of sports, including: shinty, basketball, football and hockey. She has an Honours Degree in Sports Management from Glasgow Caledonian University.
Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer, Torquil Macleod, said, “I am delighted that Katie will be joining the Camanachd Association’s Development Team. She brings a huge amount of enthusiasm, energy and experience and I am sure she will play an important role in the ongoing role in the ongoing promotion and development of shinty in the North.”
