Skye Camanachd would like to pass on their condolences to wife Celia and the family of John Farquhar Munro who passed away at home on Sunday 26 January 2014.
John Farquhar was a former Glenshiel shinty player and lifelong supporter of his local team, Kinlochshiel. He rarely missed a Camanachd Cup Final or a Shinty / Hurling international and he joined Skye Camanachd and Kingussie on their trip to Nova Scotia in 1991. He was also a strong supporter of the Gaelic language,
John Farquhar served as a local councillor from 1966 to 1999 before serving as a Lib Dem MSP, representing the former Ross, Skye and Inverness West constituency, from 1999 until 2011 when he retired.
He first served with Ross & Cromarty County Council and he went on to hold office as Convener of Skye and Lochalsh District Council (1984-95); Chairman of Highland Regional Council’s Gaelic Committee (1978-82) and Chairman of The Highland Council’s Roads and Transport Committee (1995-99).
John Farquhar passed away at his home on Sunday after a period of ill health, compounded by fracturing a hip in a fall recently. He is survived by his wife Celia, daughter Shanea and son Neil.
