Iomain nam Ban – Scots Gaelic Women’s Team | |
04 August 2015 Five Skye Camanachd Ladies players attended the Iomain nam Ban shinty training at Lochaber High School, Fort William on Saturday 25 July 2015. Iomain nam Ban (our women's team) is Iomain Cholmcille’s newest project which organisers hope will be as successful in promoting the use of Gaelic in shinty as the male equivalent. Catriona Gibb, Emma Gordon, Anna MacDonald, Christina MacDonald and Izzy Law all took part in the training session and are looking forward to hearing if they have made the final squad. The training was open to Gaelic speakers and learners aged 13 upwards, run through the medium of Gaelic, and it is hoped that it will encourage the use of Gaelic amongst female shinty players. The final squad will take part in Iomain Cholmcille 8, against Irish opposition, and is expected to be held in Donegal in October 2015. Although Iomain Cholmcille has held youth events as part of its competitions since its founding in 2007, this is the first time that a women’s competition is involved. Cholmcille is an international body which aims to develop and strengthen links between Gaelic speakers in Ireland and Scotland. |
