Inverness Win 2017 North U14 Ferguson Transport & Shipping Inter Area Tournament | |
18 September 2017 Inverness won the Ferguson Transport & Shipping U14 Inter Area matches took place at Spean Bridge on Sunday 17 September 2017. These matches provided an opportunity for players to stake a claim for selection for the North District U14 squad to play their South counterparts at An Aird on Sunday 1 October 2017. This year’s competition saw a round-robin format with the four squads from Inverness, Lochaber, Skye & Wester Ross and Badenoch playing each other in 30 minute games. All the league matches were closely contested and fiercely competitive and the standard of play throughout the day was of an extremely high standard. Inverness topped the league on maximum points, winning the Ferguson Transport & Shipping Shield for the first time. Inverness captain Finlay Ogilvie was presented with the Shield by Stuart Callison from Ferguson Transport & Shipping who also plays shinty for Marine Harvest Premiership side Lochaber. Lochaber clinched second place two points behind Inverness. Youth Coaches Ewen Mackinnon, James Munro, Lachlan Campbell, Lachie Innes, Calum Matheson, John Matheson, Iain Borthwick and Dallas Young not only selected and coached the Area squads but also selected the 15 player North District squad to play their South counter-parts. Iain Borthwick and Dallas Young will coach the North Squad and all selected players will be informed in the coming week and the squad will be formally announced once the players have accepted their place. The tournament was refereed by Iain Kennedy. Lochaber Camanachd Club made their usual efficient job of hosting the event. The Ferguson Transport & Shipping U17 Inter Area matches will take place at Spean Bridge on Sunday 24 September 2017. |
