Inveraray U17 Win 2014 MacQuiston Cup | |
17 July 2014 Inveraray U17 lifted the MacQuiston Cup with a 4-2 win over Oban Camanachd U17 at the Sports Field, Taynuilt on Sunday 29 June 2014. Inveraray started well and it took some good saves from Oban keeper Brian Logan to keep the final scoreless. Inveraray skipper Ross Anderson broke the deadlock to put his side 1-0 in front. Oban Camanachd found it difficult to get into the game at this point and Fraser Watt was on target to make 2-0 for the Winterton side. Oban Camanachd’s Evan MacLennan and Inveraray’s Lewis Montgomery (one of Inveraray’s four Strachur players) had a great battle in the middle of the park as the sides went all out for the crucial third goal. And it was Oban Camanachd who got it as Liam Higgins fired home to make it 2-1 at half time. Both sides started the second half well but it was Inveraray who restored their two goal advantage through Fraser Watt who made it 3-1. Ross Anderson added a fourth with his second goal of the afternoon to make it 4-1. Oban Camanachd never gave up and the excellent Connor Howe made it 4-2 to clinch the U17 South Championship. This was a great display by both teams on a fine Taynuilt pitch and the final was well refereed by Grade 1 official Deek Cameron. The teams were enjoyed a post-match meal at the Taynuilt Hotel. |
